2009 surely hasn’t been a year of frequent trips to the mall or Yankees games for most New Yorkers. Economic times are tough as people are working harder and taking home less. Fortunately, you don’t need much money to have a good time this summer. And we’re going to prove it. SuperGlued has asked two music enthusiasts to take on the challenge of seeing 50 FREE shows in 50 days. That means a free show (no entrance fee) everyday for 50 days. Some of the best shows in New York this summer qualify — Blonde Redhead, Q-Tip, Pat Benetar and Built to Spill.
The journey begins on June 25th and ends August 13th. Nick and Katharine will post their show recaps on SuperGlued.com. You can track their experiences by following them on Twitter (@50in50forfree) or checking their pages (Nick, Katharine) on SuperGlued for the latest recaps. Feel free to join them…and say hello if you see them at a show! These collective experiences are why we created SuperGlued.
A special thanks to OhMyRockness for posting a calendar of free shows for us to reference and Celebrate Brooklyn, Central Park SummerStage, RivertoRiver and the City of New York for making it possible to enjoy such diverse, fun and interesting sounds in outdoor settings across the city.

Putting the "K" in Kickass!
Katharine Sloss-Hartman is a Pennsylvania girl; she’s lived somewhere around central PA for her entire life and has returned to the greater Philadelphia area for school, where she’ll be a senior at Bryn Mawr College in the fall. As a major, she studies Sociology, and she gets a lot of questions about “what she’s going to do with that” after school — in all honesty, Kat really doesn’t know.
Right now she’s got a lot of Jimmy Eat World, Something Corporate, The Sounds, and Manchester Orchestra playing in her headphones, and she’s stoked beyond belief to see Built to Spill, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, and Pat Benatar on the roster this summer.
Nick Haycock was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts and attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin. A 2009 graduate of NYU, Nick studied music business at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. For three years Nick hosted “The Takeover” on WNYU playing independent Hip hop. He also worked on the Boston Folk Festival and at WUMB, a folk and world music station in Boston.
Nick plays a banjo made for him by his uncle. He is currently listening to Mos Def’s new album The Ecstatic, and looks forward to seeing Yeasayer, Anthony Gonzalez, and Qtip this summer.
